Like most people in our field, I have always had a passion for animals. From the cat my parents had when I was born, to a curious little hamster, the goldfish that survived an ice storm, an extraordinary dog, and finally an adorable cat, my childhood was filled with wonderful companions. So when the time came to choose a path for my studies, the Animal Health Technology program seemed like the perfect fit for me.

During our studies, we quickly learn that being a veterinary technician is much more than just cuddling animals. We are nurses, anesthetists, dental hygienists, nutritionists, radiology technicians, surgical assistants, educators, lab technicians, physiotherapists, and much more for our patients. Once we start working in a clinic, we discover we can be even more than that. By working in both clinical and laboratory settings during my studies, I confirmed my passion for helping and caring for our four-legged companions. We develop unique bonds with our patients and their owners.

During my final year of study, however, I discovered an interest in client service and management. It is not always an easy role, but I truly enjoy it. I spent almost two years working at the front desk of a children’s entertainment center, where I had the chance to build great relationships with both children and adults and to manage a fantastic team of hosts.

I graduated in 2011 and found my place at Hôpital vétérinaire St-Lambert the following year. Shortly after starting there, an opportunity naturally presented itself to work more at the front desk. Given my growing interest in client service, it was an easy decision. Over time, I found myself spending most of my time up front. Incredible bonds form with clients as we get to know them better with every visit.

Since July 2021, I have taken on the role of Clinical Director and work every day to help our hospital grow and ensure it runs smoothly. I still keep one foot at the front desk and in consultations a few hours a week to stay connected with our clients.

It is incredibly rewarding to help our clients every day, not only by caring for their companions but also by reassuring them and answering their questions during difficult times, whether in person or over the phone. Seeing their smile when we hand back their pet in good health, after the whole team has worked hard to help them recover, is truly heartwarming. That is what keeps me going and drives me to give my very best for our clients and patients every single day.
